Case report reveals reactive conjunctival mass from a retained bandage contact lens, suggesting complications.
This case report describes a rare complication of contact lens wear. A 72-year-old woman complained of left eye burning, stinging, mucous discharge, tears, and redness to the ophthalmology clinic. The patient had eye trouble two years ago and last visited the clinic. Left eye examination revealed ciliary injection and bandage contact lens. Lens movement was limited. A reactive, hyperemic bulbar conjunctival mass was seen at the superior limbus. The upper border of the contact lens crossed this mass, dividing it. Bandage contact lenses are specialized type designed to create a protective layer on the ocular surface and support the healing process. However, contact lens use can lead to various complications, including mechanical, infectious, and immune-related issues, which often present early. Complications related to retained contact lenses are also rarely documented. In this study, a case of reactive bulbar conjunctival mass due to retained bandage contact lens is presented.
