Study synthesized 3-cyanodifluoromethylselenobenzo[b]furans and thiophenes, implying efficient chemical processes.
(Cyanodifluoromethyl)(4-(trifluoromethyl)benzyl)selane (p-CF3BnSeCF2CN) was developed as a novel SeCF2CN reagent, which was utilized by combining it with p-MePhICl2 for realizing an efficient synthesis of 3-(cyanodifluoromethylseleno)benzo[b]furans/thiophenes via cyanodifluoromethylselenolation/cyclization of 2-alkynylanisoles/2-alkynylmethylthioethers. The mechanistic pathway was postulated to involve the in situ formation of the electrophilic Cl-SeCF2CN through the reaction of p-CF3BnSeCF2CN and p-MePhICl2, followed by a concerted cyanodifluoromethylselenolation and cyclization process.
