During the initial planning of three‐phase power systems, careful load distribution is performed to ensure balance across all phases. However, maintaining perfect phase balance remains a challenge in practical application, inevitably leading to imbalances in the three‐phase load current. To mitigate such imbalances in the grid and improve power quality, active power filter (APF) technology has been widely adopted. Based on the fundamental concept of APF, this article proposes a robust power conversion system (PCS) to mitigate three‐phase current unbalance and compensate the reactive power in community energy storage systems (ESSs). The proposed approach overcomes the limitations of conventional three‐phase three‐leg inverters, which suffer from three‐phase current coupling and are typically suitable for balanced loads. The proposed method offers a simple yet effective solution for enhancing grid stability and power quality. Experimental results across various scenarios confirm the system’s ability to mitigate the current imbalance and compensate the reactive power. This approach opens new opportunities for smarter, more resilient energy storage solutions in grids and optimizes ESS integration in unbalanced power systems.
