Randomized trial demonstrates effective synthesis of isoquinolinediones in various substrates, suggesting an eco-friendly approach.
A visible‐light‐promoted and metal‐free cascade reaction of N ‐alkyl‐ N ‐benzoylacrylamides is developed. With thioxanthen‐9‐one (TXT) employed as the organic photocatalyst, carbazates undergo single‐electron transfer and hydrogen atom transfer processes, accompanied by nitrogen extrusion to produce alkoxycarbonyl radicals. The in‐situ generated radicals undergo radical addition to acrylamide substrates, followed by intramolecular cyclization, to provide a variety of alkoxycarbonylated isoquinolinediones in moderate to good yields. This protocol features mild reaction conditions, broad substrate compatibility, and environmental benignity, providing a facile and sustainable approach for the construction of functionalized isoquinolinedione scaffolds.
