The presented scientific article highlights the main directions of regional policy as part of the main socio-economic policy of the state. Using the example of the Novgorod Region, a study was conducted on how effectively and efficiently regional government bodies conduct economic policy in this region. The place of the Novgorod region in the "Final Ranking of Regions" is also analyzed and the comparison of the Novgorod Region with its neighbors in terms of economic development is given. The current subordinate regulatory legal acts that serve as the basis for economic policy in the region have been studied in detail and the specific actions of the authorities within the framework of the economic policy have been considered in detail. Specifically, we have studied: specific ways to attract new investors to the region, methods to curb the rapidly growing unemployment rate in the region, and methods used in regional tax policy. The article provides an objective assessment of the activities of the government of the Novgorod region, and presents possible options and ways to improve the current economic situation in the region, taking into account its capabilities and strengths.
