Cellular immunotherapies are linked to cardiovascular adverse events including arrhythmias, heart failure, and MI.
Why the study?
While cellular immunotherapies improve outcomes in refractory malignancies, they are associated with numerous, sometimes severe cardiotoxicities whose spectrum and pre-treatment risk factors require characterization.
Cellular immunotherapies are associated with significant cardiovascular toxicities, highlighting the need for baseline cardiovascular risk stratification and monitoring, particularly for patients developing cytokine release syndrome.
May warrant CV monitoring in cellular immunotherapy; leaves open prospective quantification of risks and management.
In recent years, the use of cellular immunotherapies has become widespread for the treatment of patients with refractory malignancies. While this has led to improved overall outcomes, these therapies have been associated with numerous, sometimes severe cardiotoxicities. In this review, we highlight the spectrum of cardiovascular adverse events that can occur following cellular immunotherapies with a particular emphasis on the pre-treatment risk factors that may be associated with these cardiotoxicities.

Grunblatt et al. (2025) conducted a review in Refractory malignancies. Cellular immunotherapies (CAR T-cell, BiTE, TIL) was evaluated. Cellular immunotherapies, including CAR T-cell, BiTE, and TIL therapies, are associated with cardiovascular adverse events such as arrhythmias, heart failure, and myocardial infarction.
