Hematological immunotherapy is linked to cardiovascular complications including ICI myocarditis and CAR-T cardiac dysfunction.
Why the study?
Cardiovascular toxicity is a major adverse event of antitumor drug and cell therapies in hematological malignancies, requiring early diagnosis of subclinical cardiovascular changes.
What are the cardiovascular complications associated with immunotherapy in hematological malignancies?
What are the cardiovascular complications associated with immunotherapy in hematological malignancies?
This review highlights the importance of early diagnosis and management of cardiovascular complications associated with various immunotherapies in hematological malignancies.
Raises awareness for cardiotoxicity monitoring in hematologic malignancy immunotherapy; leaves optimal strategies open for prospective validation.
In clinical oncology in general, tumor treatment is closely related to a highly relevant issue of chemotherapy-induced adverse events. Among side effects, cardiovascular toxicity occupies the foremost place. The strategy of controlling the cardiovascular complications associated with antitumor drug and cell therapies presupposes an early diagnosis of changes in the heart muscle and blood vessels at the stage of subclinical manifestations of adverse events. The present literature review provides the analysis of data on immunotherapy side effects in hematological malignancies with a focus on cardiovascular complications. The review comprehensively discusses the characteristics of cardiovascular complications associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors, CAR-T cell products, bispecific antibodies as well as immunomodulatory and antiangiogenic drugs.

Данилова et al. (2023) conducted a review in Hematological malignancies. Immunotherapy (Immune checkpoint inhibitors, CAR-T cells, bispecific antibodies, immunomodulatory drugs) was evaluated. Immunotherapy for hematological malignancies is associated with various cardiovascular complications, including myocarditis from immune checkpoint inhibitors and cardiac dysfunction from CAR T-cell therapy.
