Why the study?
The prevalence of comorbid hypertension, blood pressure control rates, and determinants of poor control among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus attending a tertiary clinic in Lagos were unknown.
In Nigerian patients with Type 2 diabetes, comorbid hypertension is highly prevalent but poorly controlled, with poor glycemic control and increased waist circumference being key predictors of uncontrolled blood pressure.

Suboptimal BP control in Nigerian T2D patients with hypertension warrants attention; leaves open causal roles of glycemic control and waist circumference pending prospective studies.
