Key result
Each age-decade increase is linked to ~34% lower odds of receiving optimal HF GDMT.
Why the study?
Adherence to guideline-directed medical therapy in patients with heart failure remains suboptimal, and the role of age, polypharmacy, and comorbidities needed evaluation.
Is age associated with adherence to guideline-directed medical therapy in patients with chronic heart failure?

No

Koga et al. (2022) conducted a cross-sectional in Chronic Heart Failure (n=374). Age (each 10-year increase) was evaluated on Guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) at target dose (OR 0.66, 95% CI 0.48-0.92, p=0.013). Each age-decade increase was associated with a significantly reduced chance of receiving optimal guideline-directed medical therapy for heart failure (OR 0.66).
