Key result
Inpatient HF education is linked to ~72% lower smoking rates but unchanged physical activity.
Why the study?
Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death, prompting an assessment of whether educating heart failure patients on pro-health behaviors, especially physical activity, beneficially alters their lifestyle.
Does education in pro-health behaviors improve lifestyle in patients hospitalized for decompensated heart failure?
Observational (n=78)
No

Dąbek et al. (2023) conducted an observational in Heart failure decompensation (NYHA III-IV) (n=78). Education in pro-health behaviors vs. Baseline (before education) was evaluated on Tobacco smoking rate (p=0.0004). Education of patients hospitalized for heart failure decompensation significantly reduced smoking rates from 32.05% to 8.97%, but did not significantly improve physical activity levels.
