Indicates moderate EV-D68 circulation in Europe with mostly mild illness; leaves open questions on regional pathogenicity differences.
Poelman et al. (2015) conducted an observational in Enterovirus-D68 infection (n=17,248). Respiratory sample screening for enterovirus detection and typing was evaluated on EV-D68 positive samples. European surveillance of 17,248 respiratory specimens between July and December 2014 detected 389 EV-D68 positive samples (2.26%), showing a moderate disease burden with mostly mild disease.
