Archaeological Monitoring and Recording Report: The Bungalow, Court Lane, Clevedon, North Somerset

In December 2025, RSK ADAS Limited carried out archaeological monitoring of groundworks required for house foundations on land at The Bungalow, Court Lane, Clevedon, BS21 6TE. The Site sits within the Clevedon Pottery Core settlement and therefore archaeological monitoring was required under planning condition ARC01 under application 24/P/0504/FUL due to the high potential for Medieval and Post-Medieval deposits on the Site. The groundworks were completed over two days, and comprised the machine excavation of foundation trenches using a flat bladed 0.80 m bucket to a depth of 0.70-1.10 m below ground level. The trenches were approximately 20.0 m in length at the longest point and measured 0.80 m in width. No archaeological features or deposits were uncovered during the course of the groundworks. The absence of archaeological features is likely attributed to the heavily disturbed ground from previous development, and the relatively limited nature of the groundworks.
