Empirical analysis investigates rainfall patterns and environmental impacts in LB Nagar, suggesting climate-resilient urban planning strategies.
Urbanization in India has increasingly manifested through complex spatial transformations, especially in fast-expanding urban zones like LB Nagar, located on the southeastern edge of Hyderabad. This paper investigates the evolving urban signature of LB Nagar by focusing on land use change and monsoon-related environmental impacts using advanced geospatial tools. The paper employs Land Surface Temperature (LST) techniques in ArcGIS to study the urban signature from 2013 to 2024, along with the analysis to assess the spatial and temporal thermal variations in relation to urban growth and rainfall patterns. This research examines twelve years of rainfall data in conjunction with the evolving urban signature of LB Nagar, which reveals the changing monsoon trends align with increasing urban heat and land cover transformation. This spatial mismatch between built environment growth and climatic responses forms a critical dimension of LB Nagar's urban signature. The study finds that environmental vulnerabilities particularly rapid urbanization, drainage bottlenecks, and heat island formation are now key features of LB Nagar’s urban imprint. GIS-based land surface temperature (LST) observations further validate the environmental stress caused by unregulated urban expansion. The paper stresses integrating rainfall variability and environmental stress into defining urban signatures, emphasising spatial intelligence for climate-resilient planning. These findings are significant most particularly in rapidly transforming peri-urban areas like LB Nagar and hence offer a model for incorporating monsoon dynamics into urban geospatial studies.
