The outside salesman finds himself in the position of a linking pin between his organization and its customers. Sales managers should be sensitized to the interorganizational pressures that impinge upon the outside salesman—the man-in-the-middle. A new approach is offered for understanding the human relationships, group affiliations, and adaptability of outside salesmen.
