Does a computer model of the ventricles assist in localizing the origin of ventricular tachycardia?
A computer model of the ventricles can assist in localizing the origin of ventricular tachycardia, potentially decreasing invasive mapping time and risk.
When the catheter is placed over the origin of the tachycardia, the baseline electrocardiogram and pacing from the catheter are identical. To assist in catheter placement within the heart, a model of the ventricles was constructed to produce electrocardiogram (ECG) signals from different muscle regions. Using the original signal as a template, the model is searched to locate the area with the closest correlation to the baseline, which is then reported to the physician. The computer model, combined with a rule base, can assist in localizing the origin of ventricular tachycardia and decreases the invasive time and risk of mapping procedures.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">></ETX>
