Key result
Familial Mediterranean Fever is linked to ~116% higher oxidized LDL despite similar CIMT.
Why the study?
To investigate markers of carotid atherosclerosis and oxidized low density lipoprotein levels in patients with Familial Mediterranean Fever without cardiovascular risk factors.
Does Familial Mediterranean Fever increase subclinical atherosclerosis markers (C-IMT and OxLDL) in patients without cardiovascular risk factors?
Cross-Sectional (n=88)
No
Does Familial Mediterranean Fever increase subclinical atherosclerosis markers (C-IMT and OxLDL) in patients without cardiovascular risk factors?
Absolute Event Rate: 337.48% vs 156.19%
p-value: p=0.044

Uğurlu et al. (2022) conducted a cross-sectional in Familial Mediterranean Fever (n=88). Familial Mediterranean Fever vs. Healthy subjects was evaluated on Oxidized low density lipoprotein (OxLDL) levels (ng/dl) (p=0.044). Patients with Familial Mediterranean Fever had significantly higher oxidized LDL levels compared to healthy controls (337.48 vs 156.19 ng/dl), despite no difference in carotid intima-media thickness.
