Evaluates archaeological features in North, East Overton, indicating minimal impact on significant finds.
These works addressed the remaining trenches at the north end of Phase 4 which were inaccessible during the last programme of evaluation works undertaken in 2022. The 2023 stage consisted of an intrusive evaluation of 17 trenches excavated over four days from the 26th to the 29th of September 2023, providing an 8% sample of the remaining available area. The works identified activity relating to use of the land during the modern period, which included drainage improvements represented by the presence of rubble field drains. Disturbance from modern construction works was also visible in the southeast area through the presence of dumped material in the topsoil, including string, hazard tape and rubble. No significant archaeological features or artefacts were recovered during the works.
