Archaeological investigative works assess potential impacts in East Overton, informing mitigation strategies.
A programme of archaeological investigative works was carried out in support of development work for Phase 3 and 4, East Overton, Strathaven. The archaeological works were designed to determine the archaeological potential of the development area and hence inform the specification for mitigation of the impact on any archaeological remains within the area. Due to access constraints, only a portion of the works could be carried out at this time. The works consisted of an intrusive sample of twenty four trenches excavated between the 12th and 24th of January 2022. The works identified naturally occurring subsoil deposits and rubble and ceramic field drains, dating to the 19th century or later. An area of modern dumped material was identified along with a series of linear features similar to those identified during excavations in Phase 2. No significant archaeological features or artefacts were identified during the works.
