Why the study?
ME/CFS is a debilitating disease of unknown cause that lacks a specific biomarker for diagnosis.
Does anti-viral antibody data distinguish patients with ME/CFS from healthy controls and patients with multiple sclerosis?

Does anti-viral antibody data distinguish patients with ME/CFS from healthy controls and patients with multiple sclerosis?
The study proposes a statistical modeling approach using anti-viral antibody data to distinguish ME/CFS patients from healthy controls and multiple sclerosis patients.
Myalgic encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) is a debilitating disease of a unknown cause without a specific biomarker for the respective diagnostic. Here we analyzed anti-viral antibody data from healthy controls, patients with multiple sclerosis, and patients with ME/CFS. Finite mixture models based on flexible skew Normal and skew distributions were first fitted to the data in order to determine the seropositivity to each virus. A logistic regression analysis was then carried out to distinguish between patients with ME/CFS and the remaining study groups.
