Identifies Gordonia sp. 34D, explores its growth conditions, and highlights its metabolic capabilities in soil.
A new strain 34D was identified as a member of the genus Gordonia based on analysis of the 16S rRNA and gyrB gene sequences. Examination of cell morphology, as well as the lipid profile characterized by a predominance of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids (branched and hydroxy fatty acids were not detected), corresponded to the typical structural characteristics of known members of the genus Gordonia. For strain 34D, culture media ensuring uniform cell distribution (IPS2 and TSB) were selected. TSB was chosen as the most optimal medium (maximum specific growth rate of 0.08 h–1). The strain exhibited the ability to grow on even-chain (C10–C22) and odd-chain (C11–C15) n-alkanes, as well as on aromatic compounds. The phenol concentration optimal for cultivation of the studied strain was 75 mg/L.
