The Moderating Effect of Emotional Safety Perception on the Relationships between Job Stress and Psychological Well-Being according to the Promotion of Emotional Safety Culture in Construction Sites

In this study, 336 construction workers in Seoul and Gyeonggi area were surveyed from June 10 to June 17, 2023, and random sampling method, which is a non-probability sampling method, was used.The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effect of emotional safety awareness on the relationship between job stress and psychological well-being according to the participation of emotional safety culture and to provide basic data for improving psychological wellbeing by raising the level of emotional safety awareness of construction workers.In order to achieve this purpose, an online survey was conducted, and the results were analyzed using frequency analysis, reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and macro control effect analysis.As a result, first, there was a positive correlation between job stress and emotional safety awareness (r=.284), a positive correlation between job stress and psychological well-being (r=.182), and a positive correlation between emotional safety awareness and psychological well-being (r=.516).There was no correlation between job stress and psychological well-being, and there was a positive correlation between emotional safety awareness and psychological well-being (r=.597).,Second, the moderating effect of emotional safety awareness on the relationship between job stress and psychological wellbeing was verified in both participants and nonparticipants in the construction site of emotional safety culture.Looking closely at these moderating effects, it was confirmed that when the participating group had higher emotional safety awareness than the non-participating group, the negative effect of job stress on psychological well-being was effectively and strongly alleviated.Therefore, it is necessary to support the companies and the government to further activate the construction site of emotional safety culture.
