This study aims to analyze the competitiveness of a metalworking industry located in the Northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul. For this analysis, Porter’s (1986) five forces model was used. The methodology adopted was exploratory, descriptive, and based on a case study. Information was collected through in-depth interviews with company managers and analyzed through content analysis. The results indicate that, according to Porter’s five forces model, the threat of substitute products or services and the bargaining power of suppliers are high. Additionally, there is intense rivalry among existing companies within the segment. The research revealed a significant relationship between the development and performance of the organizations, highlighting a mutual influence and dependence of the company on territorial factors and internal resources, such as workforce qualifications and innovation capacity. External conditions, such as the availability of raw materials and infrastructure, are crucial. This detailed strategic analysis highlights the challenges and opportunities affecting the competitiveness of the metalworking industry in this region.
