Work and Family Roles: Egalitarian Marriage in Black and White Families

Wives are increasingly sharing the economic, provider role with their husbands. Black wives have a longer history of such sharing. This paper presents evidence that black husbands, compared with white husbands, are also more likely to share the domestic and child-care roles traditionally assigned to the wife.
