Does ventricular pacemaker implantation prevent syncope in young children with severe breath-holding spells complicated by asystole?
Ventricular pacing may effectively prevent syncope in children with severe breath-holding spells complicated by prolonged asystole.
May warrant pacing consideration in refractory breath-holding syncope; leaves open need for controlled trials.
Two cases of young children with frequent severe breath-holding spells complicated by prolonged asystole and seizures are reported. A ventricular pacemaker was implanted in each child, and both have subsequently remained free of syncope, although they continue to exhibit breath-holding behaviour.
