It is largely mountain plateau and desert with little rain except along coastal strips. Most of the country is plagued with dust storms. Oil is found largely on the east coast. Jeddah on the west coast is the traditional seaport and point of entry for the more than a million pilgrims each year on the 1-month hajj to Mecca.
