Fixed-dose amlodipine/irbesartan linked to a ~26 mmHg systolic BP drop in uncontrolled hypertension.
Why the study?
Latin American population studies have demonstrated suboptimal blood pressure control rates, prompting evaluation of the real-world effectiveness and safety of fixed-dose amlodipine/irbesartan for long-term hypertension management.
Does fixed-dose amlodipine/irbesartan improve blood pressure in adults with uncontrolled hypertension?
Observational (n=509)
Yes
Does fixed-dose amlodipine/irbesartan improve blood pressure in adults with uncontrolled hypertension?
Fixed-dose combination of amlodipine/irbesartan is effective and well-tolerated for long-term blood pressure control in Latin American patients with uncontrolled hypertension.
Supports real-world BP control in Latin American patients; leaves open need for randomized outcome trials.

Ruiz et al. (2024) conducted an observational in Uncontrolled hypertension (n=509). Amlodipine/irbesartan was evaluated on Absolute change in systolic blood pressure from baseline to week 48 (95% CI -28.1 to -24.3, p=<0.001). A fixed-dose combination of amlodipine/irbesartan significantly reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure by 26.2 and 13.7 mmHg, respectively, over 48 weeks in patients with uncontrolled hypertension.
