This paper provides a descriptive overview of the use of the Internet and applications of World Wide Web technology in the travel and tourism industry at a moment in time†. Emphasis is placed on informing tourism practitioners and academics about present developments in Web technologies and current applications within the travel and tourism strategic planning and marketing process. Several examples of travel-related Web sites are provided that illustrate applications within the industry. Additionally, the authors explore future opportunities and industry trends relating to the adoption of electronic information technologies into the next decade.
