Abstract

The authors present in this monograph a concise exposition of the methods employed and the knowledge to be gained by cardiac catheterization in infants and children. The first part of the book is divided into four chapters. The first chapter deals with the equipment, technics and procedures which are used, together with the precautions to be observed in avoiding undue risk to the patient. The second chapter illustrates the various positions of the catheter in the heart and great vessels as seen under the fluoroscope. The third chapter shows the characteristic pattern of the blood pressure tracings, while the final chapter sets out the formulas for the calculation of systemic and pulmonary blood flow and of blood shunts. In the second part of the book the authors present 17 case histories illustrating the various types of anomalies frequently encountered in the noncyanotic group.
