Does not support clinical changes; extends mechanistic insights into hypertrophy-related arrhythmias in rat models.
In a rat model of isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy, delayed afterdepolarizations are generated by spontaneous Ca2+ release from an overloaded sarcoplasmic reticulum caused by a downregulated Na pump and an upregulated Na/Ca exchange, explaining the propensity for arrhythmias.
