Field trial demonstrates high efficacy of insecticides against Teak defoliator in plantations, indicating effective pest management.
Teak (Tectona grandis L.) is severely damaged by the leaf defoliator Hyblaea puera in many parts of the country. This affects the biomass production in the plantations. A field trial was laid out to find out the efficacy of the insecticides, viz., cypermethrin, fenvalerate, monocrotophos, acephate, endosulfan, quinalphos and carbaryl against this pest. Spraying of 0.01% cypermethrin, 0.01% fenvalerate and 0.02% acephate was highly effective by reducing 98.08, 96.65, 95.20 per cent larval population respectively.
