Are left atrial remodeling parameters associated with frequent grouped supraventricular extrasystoles in patients with arterial hypertension?
Left atrial enlargement is associated with increased arrhythmic activity, specifically frequent grouped supraventricular extrasystoles, in patients with arterial hypertension.

Objective: To assess the relationship between left atrial size parameters, including left atrial volume (LAV) and indexed left atrial volume (LAVI), and frequent grouped supraventricular extrasystoles (gr. SVE) in patients with arterial hypertension. Design and method: The study included 50 patients with arterial hypertension (grades I–III) classified as having high or very high cardiovascular risk. The mean age of the patients was 51.2 ± 11.9 years, and the mean duration of hypertension was 8.8 ± 6.2 years. All patients underwent 24-hour Holter ECG monitoring to detect cardiac rhythm disturbances. Echocardiography was performed to assess left atrial dimensions and volumetric parameters, particularly LAV and LAVI. Statistical analysis was carried out using methods of descriptive and inferential statistics. Spearman correlation analysis was applied to evaluate associations; p-values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: A positive correlation was identified between left atrial diameter and frequent grouped supraventricular extrasystoles (r = 0.39, p = 0.031), indicating increased arrhythmic activity in the presence of left atrial dilation. Volumetric remodeling parameters (LAV and LAVI) also demonstrated a tendency toward positive correlation with frequent grouped supraventricular extrasystoles (r = 0.36, p = 0.09). Despite the lack of statistical significance, this trend indicates an associative relationship between increased left atrial volumetric indices and frequent grouped supraventricular extrasystoles. Conclusions: Left atrial size and its volumetric remodeling parameters are associated with frequent grouped supraventricular extrasystoles in patients with arterial hypertension. Enlargement of the atrial dimensions, as well as increases in volumetric parameters (LAV and LAVI), may be considered potential predictors of supraventricular rhythm disturbances.
