An algorithm using wavelets successfully detected heartbeat rate from a phase modulated Doppler radar signal up to 1.5m away in a noisy environment without the need for filtering.
Wavelet transform can effectively detect heartbeat rates from Doppler radar signals up to 1.5m away in noisy environments without filtering.
May enable non-contact HR monitoring in noisy settings; leaves open prospective clinical validation before adoption.
An algorithm using wavelets is used to detect heartbeat rate from a phase modulated Doppler radar signal. It is shown that the heartbeat rate can be detected up to 1.5m from the radar in a noisy environment without the need of filtering. Also the property of wavelet transform to preserve both time and frequency information is utilized to analyze the phase modulated Doppler radar signal giving information about changes in heart beat over very small intervals of time.
