A robust QRS complex detector algorithm based on a modified Pan-Tompkins method and wavelet transform demonstrated high sensitivity and positive predictivity over a wide range of ECG recordings.
Why the study?
The study was conducted to develop a robust QRS complex detector algorithm for use in a comprehensive ECG analysis tool for HRV analysis.
A novel QRS complex detector algorithm combining a modified Pan-Tompkins method and wavelet transform achieved high sensitivity and positive predictivity, particularly reducing errors in ectopic beats.
The presented paper details our approach to developing a robust QRS complex detector algorithm based on modified Pan-Tompkins method and wavelet transform. The addition of the wavelet transform based algorithm enabled significant reduction of errors that occurred mainly in ectopic cardiac recordings. The designed algorithm is to be employed in a comprehensive ECG analysis tool for HRV analysis of a significant sample of patients. Testing of the algorithm was performed on a sample database 35 times larger than the standardized MITDB database and results indicate both high sensitivity and positive predictivity levels over a wide range of ECG recordings.
