Key result
Study evaluates the prognostic utility of MRI-derived LA strain in DCM.
Why the study?
Prognostic evaluation in dilated cardiomyopathy has historically focused on LGE and LV-GLS, while early data suggested FT-derived left atrial strain parameters may also have prognostic value.
Cohort
Yes
Left atrial strain by MRI feature-tracking needs validation before prognostic use in dilated cardiomyopathy; leaves open its incremental value.
Background: MRI-based prognostic evaluation in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) has historically used markers of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) and feature-tracking (FT) derived left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LV-GLS). Early data indicate that FT-derived left atrial strain (LAS) parameters, including reservoir, conduit, and booster, may also have prognostic roles in such patients.

Fong et al. (2024) conducted a cohort in Ischemic and Nonischemic Dilated Cardiomyopathy. Left atrial strain (LAS) from MRI feature tracking was evaluated. The prognostic utility of MRI feature-tracking derived left atrial strain in dilated cardiomyopathy was evaluated, but quantitative results were not provided in the truncated abstract.
