Acceptability of Treatments for Child Behavior Problems: issues and Implications for Future Research

Abstract Focuses on the rationale for treatment acceptability research from the perspectives of client, therapist, and society. Research investigating the variables that influence treatment acceptability judgments is reviewed. Various research issues are identified and discussed with recommendations for advancement to a more sophisticated level of conceptualization. We argue that further progress in understanding treatment acceptability requires a greater emphasis on construct validation, consideration of nontreatment factors, use of alternate research methodologies, and expansion to a broader range of settings, behavior problems, and interventions.
