Highlights the need for optimal care for both mother and fetus in pregnant women requiring neurointensive care.
Underscores need for integrated maternal-fetal neurocritical care; leaves open standardized protocols pending prospective evidence.
There is considerable overlap between pregnancy and neurointensive care. This interface includes pre-existent conditions that may be impacted upon by pregnancy such as myasthenia gravis or intracranial aneurysm as well as critical illnesses limited to pregnancy and the puerperium such as pituitary apoplexy. In each situation, every possible effort should be made to extend optimal care to both mother and fetus.
