Key result
Self-care scores among Iranian HF patients average ~34, showing improvement in recent years.
Why the study?
Knowledge about self-care behaviors and compliance in chronic diseases is very important, prompting an investigation into the self-care behavior of patients with cardiac insufficiency in Iran.
Meta-Analysis (n=2,919)
Effect estimate: 34.33 (95% CI 33.49-35.18)
The average self-care behavior score among Iranian heart failure patients is 34.33, highlighting a need to promote self-care behaviors in this population.
Highlights need to promote self-care in Iranian HF patients; leaves open determinants of temporal and study-size variations.
Objective(s): Knowledge about self-care behaviors and compliance with them in patients with chronic diseases is very important. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the behavior of patients with cardiac insufficiency through transcriptase and meta-analytic methods in Iran. Methods: Electronic databases including Magiran، Iran medex، Scopus ، Pub Med, Cochrane ،Web of Science were searched using the keywords self-care, self-care index, and self-care components (self-care maintenance, self-care management and self-care confidence) between 2009 and 2018. To investigate heterogeneity, I2 was used. Results: A total of 23 studies were entered into the final analysis. The mean score (CI 95%) of self-care behaviors was 34.33 (33.49-35.18). The meta-regression findings showed that in the studies conducted in recent years, the average score of self-care behavior of patients with heart failure increased, but this value decreased significantly in studies with large sample sizes. Conclusion: Considering the importance of self-care in the prevention and control of the disease, it is recommended to increase self-care behaviors among patients with heart failure.

Shohani et al. (2024) conducted a meta-analysis in Heart failure (n=2,919). Self-care behaviors was evaluated on Mean score of self-care behaviors (34.33, 95% CI 33.49-35.18). The pooled mean score of self-care behaviors among Iranian patients with heart failure was 34.33, with meta-regression indicating increased scores in recent years but decreased scores in larger studies.
