Cross-sectional study determines PPP prevalence and penile size correlations in Vietnamese men, suggesting implications for patient anxiety.
Introduction Pearly penile papules (PPPs) are benign anatomical structures commonly found around the corona of the glans penis. While medically insignificant and non infectious, their physical appearance can cause confusion and anxiety in men, often leading to unnecessary concern. Objective To determine the prevalence of PPPs in Vietnamese men and assess their association with age and penile morphometrics (flaccid, stretched, and erect lengths). Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted on 3,099 adult males who were examined at the Andrology and Fertility Hospital of Hanoi, Vietnam, between 2023 and September 2025. The presence of PPP was confirmed through genital examination. Penile length was measured flaccid, stretched, and erect. Results The prevalence of pearly penile papules was 2.84%. Men with PPP had a shorter flaccid penile length compared to those without PPP (8.23 cm vs. 8.75 cm; p < 0.01), and a longer erect penile length (14.83 cm vs. 13.72 cm; p = 0.03). There was no significant difference in stretched penile length between the two groups (12.69 cm vs. 12.68 cm; p = 0.98). Age did not differ significantly between men with and without PPP (29.83 years vs. 29.37 years; p = 0.51). Conclusions Prevalence of PPP accounted for a small number but a clinically relevant percentage of Vietnamese men seeking care. These findings may aid in patient counseling and help reduce unnecessary concern about PPP. Disclosure No
