Case report reveals critical limb ischemia from VCD deployment error, emphasizing the need for vigilance in interventions.
With the advancement in endovascular techniques, more and more vascular interventions are being performed using minimally invasive technique. Vascular Closure Devices (VCD) are frequently being used after endovascular interventions to achieve faster haemostasis and early mobilization. Though the VCDs are considered safe, complications like arterial occlusion due to inadvertent intravascular deployment have been reported. Mostly its identified immediately after the procedure and requires urgent intervention in order to prevent acute limb ischaemia or distal embolization. Delayed presentation as critical or chronic limb ischaemia is very rare and limited case has been reported till date. We hereby report an interesting case of Common Femoral Artery occlusion due to accidental intraluminal deployment of an Angio-Seal device, missed initially, and patient reported with disabling claudication after three months of initial intervention and subsequently managed with surgical endarterectomy and vein patch repair of Femoral artery.
