Comparative Analysis of Physical Fitness Variables Among Rural and Urban High School Students in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh

AbstractPhysical fitness is a vital component of human health and educationaldevelopment. The present study investigates the differences in selectedphysical fitness variables among rural and urban high school students of NorthCoastal Andhra Pradesh. Physical fitness variables such as speed, explosivepower, muscular endurance, and agility were selected for comparison. A total of300 high school students from Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, and Visakhapatnamdistricts participated in the study. The research aimed to identify the extent ofdifferences between rural and urban students and to understand the influenceof environmental and lifestyle factors on physical fitness performance. Datawere collected using standardized physical fitness tests including the 30-metersprint, vertical jump, bent-knee sit-ups, and shuttle run. Statistical analysisrevealed noticeable variations in physical fitness levels between rural andurban students. Rural students demonstrated advantages in endurance-relatedactivities due to greater participation in outdoor physical activities, whereasurban students exhibited better performance in certain structured fitnesscomponents due to access to sports facilities and coaching. The findingsemphasize the importance of physical education programs in schools and theneed for balanced fitness development among adolescents. The studycontributes to the understanding of physical fitness patterns among schoolstudents and provides useful information for educators, coaches, andpolicymakers.
