Abstract Preservation measures in historic buildings that house museums are essential for safeguarding cultural heritage. Exogenous degradation agents such as temperature, relative humidity, ultraviolet radiation and water can damage collections and reduce their lifespan. Identifying risks associated with these agents can support preventive actions. This study aimed to pre-identify exogenous natural degradation agents in the exhibition spaces of the Ipiranga Museum. A Systematic Literature Review was conducted to identify the characteristics of these agents and related risk-reduction strategies, thereby supporting subsequent visual inspections in seven exhibition spaces. The observations were then correlated with the literature to propose appropriate mitigation measures. The results were represented through infographics combined with 3D models of the exhibition spaces. The findings proved valuable for the pre-identification of risks at the museum, while the visual inspection method demonstrated potential as an easily replicable tool that enhances the autonomy of museum staff in identifying risks and managing preventive measures.
