Experimental Development of a DABCO-Meldrum's Acid Reagent Modifies Indoles, Indicating a Safer Alternative.
The indole group is an important heterocyclic moiety in many biologically active compounds. We have developed a DABCO-Meldrum's acid reagent that can be used as an alternative to toxic acrylate compounds to install a functional group handle at the indole 3-position, which can be readily transformed into an array of amides. The reported DABCO-Meldrum's acid reagent can be prepared in gram scale and is an easy to manipulate solid.
