Abstract India experienced rapid growth in UPI and digital payment systems during 2019–2023 due to increasing smartphone usage, affordable internet services and government initiatives promoting cashless transactions. The study examines the impact of digital payments on consumer spending behaviour in India using secondary data from RBI and NPCI reports. The findings reveal that digital payments increased transaction convenience, reduced cash dependency and encouraged online shopping, frequent purchases and impulse spending. The study concludes that UPI and digital payments significantly transformed consumer spending patterns and supported the growth of India’s digital economy.
