This special issue explores eco-emotions impacting reactions to environmental crises, highlighting significant dynamics.
Emotional experiences can be highly relevant for how we react to environmental issues. However, many questions about the exact role of emotions and the dynamics of emotional processes in people’s reactions to environmental problems remain open. The synergy of the contributions to this special issue enables a nuanced conceptualization of eco-emotions (i.e., emotional experiences in the context of environmental crises). These studies show that the target at which eco-emotions are directed (e.g., the crisis itself, those responsible, technologies or actions to address it) is a crucial aspect of these emotions. Furthermore, the studies provide insights into temporal, regulatory, and interpersonal dynamics, especially in the context of climate change.
