Examines curriculum design impact on Arabic teaching efficiency in Chinese universities, suggesting improvements.
In recent years, China’s international status has been improving, and the demand for strengthening foreign exchange and international communication ability has become more urgent, which has pointed out the direction for the construction and development of China’s foreign language education, especially the construction and development of higher foreign language education, and the goals and tasks of the professional development need to be updated urgently, and General Secretary Xi Jinping has clearly pointed out that it is necessary to “strive to cultivate more composite talents who have a sense of nationalism, a global vision, and professional skills”.The cultivation of talents and the enhancement of their comprehensive ability cannot be separated from specific teaching practice. It has been observed that the current level of attention given to Arabic language teaching and research in China remains generally low. Concomitantly, a number of educators, particularly early-career teachers, are facing notable challenges in the realm of curriculum design. As a foreign language teaching theory rooted in China’s local context, through years of development, the POA (Production-Oriented Approach) has proven to be effective in enhancing teaching efficiency and improving teaching standards. Guided by this theory, this paper takes a unit from the intensive reading course for sophomore students in the primary stage of Arabic majors at Chinese universities as an example to demonstrate the specific teaching design, with the aim of providing references and insights for teaching activities at this stage.
