Research finds progress in Arab-China collaboration through the Global Development Initiative, highlighting development cooperation.
The Global Development Initiative is one of the significant public goods that China has presented to the world. Since its launch more than three years ago, China and Arab countries, both part of the Global South, have made remarkable progress under this initiative, whether in mobilizing resources, establishing mechanisms, or enhancing practical cooperation. With the acceleration of Arab countries’ orientation toward the East in recent years, influenced by regional and international transformations, this research focuses on understanding the dynamic Arab world’s concepts such as “development” and the “Chinese development model” and its interpretation. It also explores the role of the Global Development Initiative in strengthening the quality of China-Arab relations through three main pillars: reaffirming “the centrality of development in the international agenda,” “re-accelerating” positive interactions between both sides within bilateral and multilateral frameworks to enhance international development cooperation, and “re-mobilizing” the practical cooperation existing between them. This initiative provides new momentum for the development of the “Global South,” and when placed in the context of China-Arab relations, it can contribute to building a shared development community between the two sides, ultimately enhancing the construction of a community of shared destiny in the new era.
