This article reviews Expert Choice software, demonstrating its utility in structuring decision models for research and practice.
This article presents information on Expert Choice software, developed by Decision Support Software Inc. Expert Choice software, which is based upon Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), can be used in two ways. First, by assisting individuals in structuring the decision making process through subdividing the overall decision into component parts. Secondly, Expert Choice can aid academics conducting research on decision models of experts. The AHP is designed to reveal the decision models of experts. The technique involves structuring a decision into hierarchies reflecting factors important in making the decision. The AHP can handle multiple hierarchies or subdecisions. The outcome of the AHP process is a listing of the relative importance of each decision factor for each expert. Expert Choice is easy to use. Its documentation is extensive and well written. The accompanying tutorial, which uses three different cases to illustrate different levels of complexity, thoroughly prepares an individual to use Expert Choice.
