Do aging and incident comorbidities affect ischemic stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation?
This study investigates how aging and the development of new comorbidities affect the risk of ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation.

“While previous evidence showed that, in people with AF, the risk of stroke is dynamic rather than static, other studies in the general population have shown how the most recent assessment of frailty is a strong predictor of death. However, the changes in frailty and the pace of change were also associated with the subsequent risk of death. Taken together, the study by Nakamaru et al remarks that in the current era, older people with AF may deserve further attention.”
Supports dynamic AF stroke risk assessment incorporating age and comorbidities; extends prior models but leaves intervention effects open.

Chao et al. (2018) conducted a cohort in Atrial fibrillation (n=31,039). Aging and incident comorbidities (Delta CHA) was evaluated on Ischemic stroke risk. Aging and incident comorbidities were evaluated for their relationship to stroke risk in 31,039 patients with atrial fibrillation.
