Demonstrates improved brain tumor detection in lung cancer patients with F-18-FAPI-74 PET/CT, suggesting better diagnostic potential.
A 50-year-old woman with lung cancer underwent F-18-FAPI-74 PET/CT. The scan revealed a mass with mild tracer uptake in the right cerebellopontine angle with a high tumor-to-background ratio (TBR). In contrast, on the simultaneous F-18-FDG PET/CT, the lesion was difficult to identify because of intense physiological uptake in the normal brain parenchyma. Contrast-enhanced MRI confirmed an acoustic schwannoma. Normal brain tissue exhibits minimal FAPI uptake, and even a slight tumor accumulation can be highlighted with a high TBR. Our observations suggest that F-18-FAPI-74 PET/CT might be advantageous over F-18-FDG PET/CT for the incidental detection of brain tumors.
