Development of any nation. India has set an ambitious goal of becoming a developed nation under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, which emphasizes innovation, technological advancement, and entrepreneurship as key factors for national progress. In this context, higher education institutions play a crucial role in nurturing innovative talent and developing entrepreneurial capabilities among students. To promote a culture of innovation and start-up development in educational institutions, the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) initiative was introduced by the Ministry of Education Innovation Cell, Government of India. The main objective of IIC is to encourage creative thinking, innovation, and entrepreneurship among students and faculty members through various activities such as innovation competitions, workshops, expert talks, and incubation support. The present study aims to examine the role of IIC in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in higher education institutions and its contribution towards achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. The study is based on primary and secondary data collected from students and faculty members regarding their participation in IIC activities. The findings of the study reveal that IIC initiatives significantly enhance innovative thinking, problem-solving skills, and entrepreneurial mindset among students. The study concludes that Institution’s Innovation Councils play a vital role in strengthening the innovation ecosystem in colleges and universities. By encouraging creativity, research, and start- up culture, IIC contributes to the development of skilled human resources and supports India’s long-term goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
